A short .3-mile drive off the main road brings you to this picnic area beautifully set adjacent to the Yellowstone River. This is the last area you can fish before entering Hayden Valley. This is also the location of Chief Joseph's crossing of the Yellowstone River in 1877 during the Nez Perce flight from the pursuing US Army. Most of the 18 tables are located near the river with the others positioned along the short drive and among trees providing a good variety of picnicking options from which to choose. A single restroom, garbage canisters, and recycle canisters are positioned here.
